BEST OF MONTREAL CONTEST 2024

A couple of years ago, The Suburban Newspaper (https://www.thesuburban.com) launched its “Best of Montreal” contest (https://www.bestofmtl.com).   Businesses all over the Montreal area were nominated in different categories and readers and supporters could then vote for their favourite enterprise during the month of October.  Results were tabulated and the top three winners in each category were announced in January of the following year.

 

“Art Gallery” fell into the “Things to Do” category.  Galerie Peter W Hart Gallery was one of the nominees and we ended up winning the category!  You can imagine how proud all of us were when we heard the news that we  were named the best art gallery in Montreal!  It would never have happened without my wife Francine and her hard working Team.  They try and make every visitor feel welcomed regardless of whether they buy a painting or not.

 

I’m pleased to say that our gallery has been nominated again in the “Best of Montreal” contest.  As in previous years, we are in the “Things To Do Category” under “Art Gallery”.   For some reason, they have us listed in English and French.  You can vote for each listing, once a day until the end of October 27th at the following link… https://www.votemtl.com/.

CONCOURS MEILLEUR DE MONTRÉAL 2024

Il y a quelques années, le journal The Suburban (https://www.thesuburban.com) a lancé son concours « Meilleur de Montréal » (https://www.bestofmtl.com). Des entreprises de toute la région de Montréal ont été nominées dans différentes catégories et les lecteurs et sympathisants ont ensuite pu voter pour leur entreprise préférée au cours du mois d’octobre. Les résultats ont été compilés et les trois premiers gagnants de chaque catégorie ont été annoncés en janvier de l’année suivante.

 

La section « Galerie d’art » est  dans la catégorie « Choses à faire ». La Galerie Peter W Hart Gallery était l’une des nominées et nous avons fini par gagner la catégorie ! Vous pouvez imaginer à quel point nous étions tous fiers lorsque nous avons appris la nouvelle que nous avons été nommés la meilleure galerie d’art de Montréal ! Cela n’aurait jamais eu lieu sans ma femme Francine et son équipe qui travaille dur. Ils s’efforcent de faire en sorte que chaque visiteur se sente le bienvenu, qu’il achète un tableau ou non.

 

Je suis heureux de dire que notre galerie a été à nouveau nominée au concours « Meilleur de Montréal ». Comme les années précédentes, nous sommes dans la catégorie « Choses à faire » sous « Galerie d’art ». Pour une raison quelconque, nous sommes répertoriés en anglais et en français. WHY SUNFLOWERS ? - POURQUOI DES TOURNESOLS?

  English Version - *version française dessous* WHY SUNFLOWERS? My Mom really loved sunflowers!  Sadly, she passed away from cancer in 2000.  Every time I paint sunflowers, I think of her, and her memory make me happy.  I believe a bit of Mom’s soul is in each of my sunflower paintings. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing Mom is getting to places she never visited in her lifetime.  This is one of the main reasons I paint sunflowers! Did you know that even on cloudy days the face of the sunflower follows the trajectory of the sun? To me, this is a message of hope… even if I’m having a bad day, the sun is just behind the clouds and tomorrow will be a better day. PHOTO: TOURNESOLS – details by Peter W. WORKING IN A FACTORY - TRAVAILLER DANS UNE USINE

  English Version - *version française dessous* WORKING IN A FACTORY I would never paint the way I do if I had not worked in my parents’ jewellery factory.  When I got out of high school, I went into my family’s jewellery business as did Cam Ferguson and eventually all my siblings.   My parents insisted that we work in the factory and learn every job from the ground up. They encouraged us to innovate and not be afraid to get our hands dirty. This included sweeping the factory floor and working on every machine.  We worked for people who cared about what they did and what they made.  They taught us lessons that we carried through our lives and gave us a solid base in understanding how things were made.   It also taught us that every tool and machine had its proper place in the factory.  I have carried this over into my studio.  Although I’m a very messy painter, at the end of the day I always put everything way.  Visitors often remark how tidy my studio looks.  It’s all becaus
