THE GIFT OF GIVING

We’ve all heard the expression it is better to give than receive.  I really believe this, as does my wife Francine. 

 

I started painting to relieve the stress in my life and make me happy.  I never started painting to sell my works.  As time went on, I started giving paintings to my family, friends, employees and others.  Giving them away made me happy and I hope it made others happy too!

 

Shortly after we opened the gallery, we started to receive requests to donate paintings. My wife Francine and her team handled all these requests… we never said no.  We are all very proud of the fact that since we opened the gallery in 2013, we have donated over 70 paintings valued at 123 230 $ to 33 Not For Profit organizations in Canada and the USA.  I’ve listed the various organizations we have helped below.

 

Knowing my paintings have been auctioned off and used to support great causes makes me very happy and is a source of pride to all of us who work at the gallery.

Nous avons tous entendu l’expression « il vaut mieux donner que recevoir ». J’y crois vraiment, tout comme ma femme Francine.

 

J’ai commencé à peindre pour soulager le stress de ma vie et me rendre heureux. Je n’ai jamais commencé à peindre pour vendre mes œuvres. Au fil du temps, j’ai commencé à offrir des tableaux à ma famille, à mes amis, à mes employés et à d’autres. Les offrir me rendait heureux et j’espère que cela rendait les autres heureux aussi !

 

Peu de temps après l’ouverture de la galerie, nous avons commencé à recevoir des demandes de don de tableaux. Ma femme Francine et son équipe ont traité toutes ces demandes… nous n’avons jamais dit non. Nous sommes tous très fiers du fait que depuis l’ouverture de la galerie en 2013, nous avons fait don de plus de 70 tableaux d’une valeur de 123 230 $ à 33 organismes à but non lucratif au Canada et aux États-Unis. J’ai énuméré ci-dessous les différents organismes que nous avons aidés.

 

Savoir que mes tableaux ont été vendus aux enchères et utilisés pour soutenir de grandes causes me rend très heureux et est une source de fierté pour nous tous qui travaillons à la galerie.

WHY SUNFLOWERS ? - POURQUOI DES TOURNESOLS?

  English Version - *version française dessous* WHY SUNFLOWERS? My Mom really loved sunflowers!  Sadly, she passed away from cancer in 2000.  Every time I paint sunflowers, I think of her, and her memory make me happy.  I believe a bit of Mom’s soul is in each of my sunflower paintings. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing Mom is getting to places she never visited in her lifetime.  This is one of the main reasons I paint sunflowers! Did you know that even on cloudy days the face of the sunflower follows the trajectory of the sun? To me, this is a message of hope… even if I’m having a bad day, the sun is just behind the clouds and tomorrow will be a better day. PHOTO: TOURNESOLS – details by Peter W. WORKING IN A FACTORY - TRAVAILLER DANS UNE USINE

  English Version - *version française dessous* WORKING IN A FACTORY I would never paint the way I do if I had not worked in my parents’ jewellery factory.  When I got out of high school, I went into my family’s jewellery business as did Cam Ferguson and eventually all my siblings.   My parents insisted that we work in the factory and learn every job from the ground up. They encouraged us to innovate and not be afraid to get our hands dirty. This included sweeping the factory floor and working on every machine.  We worked for people who cared about what they did and what they made.  They taught us lessons that we carried through our lives and gave us a solid base in understanding how things were made.   It also taught us that every tool and machine had its proper place in the factory.  I have carried this over into my studio.  Although I’m a very messy painter, at the end of the day I always put everything way.  Visitors often remark how tidy my studio looks.  It’s all becaus
