LAKESHORE ARTISTS ASSOCIATION… A WONDERFUL ORGANIZATION

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of presenting myself and my work to the Lakeshore Artists Association (LAA). This association of about 50 professional artists, spanning from Lachine to Hudson, holds regular meetings, shares creative ideas, sketches together, and exhibits their work. Every fall, they host an outdoor exhibition at Stewart Hall in Pointe-Claire, where members sell their artwork, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting West Island charities. 

My presentation lasted about 45 minutes and covered a bit about me, my artistic journey, and my process, followed by a brief Q&A session. .You can click here to access a copy of my presentation if you’re interested.

 

Francine and I have long admired the LAA from afar. We live in Valois Village, Pointe-Claire, and often take long walks along Lakeshore Boulevard, passing by the Stewart Hall Community Centre. We look forward to their fall show every year and appreciate their ongoing support for West Island charities. 

 

Before my presentation, I learned that the LAA will be holding a Spring Expo at Fritz Farm in Baie-D’Urfé from April 11th to 13th. A third of the proceeds will benefit NOVA West Island (novawi.org). Francine and I will definitely be attending, and I encourage others to go as well—you’ll see some incredible art! I’ve also attached a poster about the event.

 

As both individual artists and as an association, the LAA truly uses art to help make the world a better place.

 

 L'ASSOCIATION DES ARTISTES DU LAKESHORE… UNE ORGANISATION MERVEILLEUSE

Il y a quelques semaines, j'ai eu l'honneur de me présenter et de présenter mon travail à l'Association des artistes du Lakeshore (AAL). Cette association, qui regroupe une cinquantaine d'artistes professionnels, répartis de Lachine à Hudson, tient régulièrement des réunions, partage des idées créatives, dessine ensemble et expose ses œuvres. Chaque automne, elle organise une exposition extérieure au Stewart Hall de Pointe-Claire. Les membres y vendent leurs œuvres et une partie des profits est reversée à des organismes de bienfaisance de l'Ouest-de-l'Île.

 

Ma présentation, d'une durée d'environ 45 minutes, a permis de me présenter brièvement, de parler de mon parcours artistique et de ma démarche, avant de passer à une brève séance de questions-réponses. Vous pouvez cliquer ici si vous êtes intéressés à lire une copie de ma présentation. 


Francine et moi admirons l'AAL depuis longtemps. Nous habitons le village Valois, à Pointe-Claire, et faisons souvent de longues promenades le long du boulevard Lakeshore, en passant par le centre communautaire Stewart Hall. Nous attendons avec impatience leur exposition d'automne chaque année et apprécions leur soutien continu aux organismes de bienfaisance de l'Ouest-de-l'Île.

 

Avant ma présentation, j'ai appris que l'AAL tiendrait une exposition printanière à la Ferme Fritz, à Baie-D'Urfé, du 11 au 13 avril. Un tiers des recettes sera versé à NOVA Ouest-de-l'Île (novawi.org). Francine et moi y serons certainement, et j'encourage tout le monde à y aller aussi ; vous y verrez des œuvres d'art incroyables ! En tant qu'artistes individuels et en tant qu'association, l'AAL utilise véritablement l'art pour contribuer à un monde meilleur.

LATE BEGINNINGS - DÉBUTS TARDIFS

  English Version - *version française dessous*    LATE BEGINNINGS My first wife bought me a paint set for Christmas in 1988.   It was a beginners set for oil painting and had a small 5" x 7" canvas along with an instruction booklet on how to paint several different images.     In the spring of 1989, I tried it out.   Because I have kept a daily diary since the age of 23, I know the exact date.   It was Sunday, April 16 th , 1989.   I choose a winter farm scene and carefully followed the instructions.   To be frank, it was almost like “paint-by-numbers” but without the lines and numbers!   After about five hours of effort, I told myself "nice try... WE ARE MOVING! - NOUS DÉMÉNAGEONS!

  English Version - *version française dessous*      WE ARE MOVING!     It is with much excitement that I’m pleased to announce we will be moving our gallery and my studio from 367 Rue St-Paul Est in the Old Port of Montreal to 49A Donegani in Pointe-Claire .   Francine and I opened our gallery on May 18th, 2013 . It was meant to be a five-month pop-up, with plans to close at the end of October. Our goal was to sell 50 paintings by then—but we reached that milestone by the end of June ! By the end of the summer, Francine and I decided to keep the gallery open for at least one year. That one year turned into twelve beautiful years !   Since then, we’ve sold nearly 2,300 paintings to over 1,800 collectors in more than 30 countries around the world!   Of course, our twelve years on St-Paul came with some real adventures and challenges.
