CREATIVITY

I think creativity resides in everyone!  The problem is that we often do not see it in ourselves.  And if we don't see it, most likely others won't either.  Creativity doesn't reside solely in artists. People associate my creativity with my painting, but I NEVER did.  I felt just as creative working on certain aspects of my former business as I did when painting. It just takes a different form. 


Creativity can happen anywhere, anytime and to anyone. You don't have to be an artist to be creative. You can be a floor cleaner, a dishwasher, an accountant, a teacher or whatever and still be creative.

You just have to find it!  I often wonder what would have happened if I never picked up the book that inspired me to paint.  I might never have discovered my passion to paint.  But if I had NEVER painted, would I still consider myself creative?  The answer is MOST certainly yes!

My definition of a creative person is someone who pushes themselves beyond their own comfort zone to try new things, take risks and to accept the possibility of failure.  Someone who looks at new ways of doing things and challenges the convention.  Someone who tries to make the impossible - POSSIBLE!

LA CRÉATIVITÉ

Je pense que la créativité réside en chacun ! Le problème est que nous ne le voyons souvent pas en nous-mêmes. Et si nous ne le voyons pas, les autres ne le verront probablement pas non plus. La créativité ne réside pas uniquement chez les artistes. Les gens associent ma créativité à ma peinture, mais je ne l’ai JAMAIS fait. Je me sentais tout aussi créatif en travaillant sur certains aspects de mon ancien emploi qu’en peignant. Cela prend simplement une forme différente. 


La créativité peut se produire n’importe où, n’importe quand et pour n’importe qui. Il n'est pas nécessaire d'être un artiste pour être créatif. Vous pouvez être nettoyeur de sols, plongeur, comptable, enseignant ou autre tout en restant créatif.

Il faut juste trouver sa créativité! Je me demande souvent ce qui se serait passé si je n’avais jamais repris le livre qui m’a inspiré à peindre. Je n'aurais peut-être jamais découvert ma passion pour la peinture. Mais si je n’avais JAMAIS peint, me considérerais-je toujours créatif ? La réponse est très certainement oui !

Ma définition d'une personne créative est quelqu'un qui dépasse sa propre zone de confort pour essayer de nouvelles choses, prendre des risques et accepter la possibilité d'un échec. Quelqu’un qui cherche de nouvelles façons de faire et qui remet en question les conventions. Quelqu'un qui essaie de rendre l'impossible - POSSIBLE !

WHY SUNFLOWERS ? - POURQUOI DES TOURNESOLS?

  English Version - *version française dessous* WHY SUNFLOWERS? My Mom really loved sunflowers!  Sadly, she passed away from cancer in 2000.  Every time I paint sunflowers, I think of her, and her memory make me happy.  I believe a bit of Mom’s soul is in each of my sunflower paintings. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing Mom is getting to places she never visited in her lifetime.  This is one of the main reasons I paint sunflowers! Did you know that even on cloudy days the face of the sunflower follows the trajectory of the sun? To me, this is a message of hope… even if I’m having a bad day, the sun is just behind the clouds and tomorrow will be a better day. PHOTO: TOURNESOLS – details by Peter W. WORKING IN A FACTORY - TRAVAILLER DANS UNE USINE

  English Version - *version française dessous* WORKING IN A FACTORY I would never paint the way I do if I had not worked in my parents’ jewellery factory.  When I got out of high school, I went into my family’s jewellery business as did Cam Ferguson and eventually all my siblings.   My parents insisted that we work in the factory and learn every job from the ground up. They encouraged us to innovate and not be afraid to get our hands dirty. This included sweeping the factory floor and working on every machine.  We worked for people who cared about what they did and what they made.  They taught us lessons that we carried through our lives and gave us a solid base in understanding how things were made.   It also taught us that every tool and machine had its proper place in the factory.  I have carried this over into my studio.  Although I’m a very messy painter, at the end of the day I always put everything way.  Visitors often remark how tidy my studio looks.  It’s all becaus
